DISASTER EVENTS AND EMERGENCIES BULLETIN NO. 2023-04
PAGASA UPDATES (As of May 30, 11:00AM)
Based on PAGASA’s latest bulletin (As of May 30, 11:00 AM), TY Betty is now located 315km east of Basco, Batanes with a strength of 150km/h near its center and gustiness of 185km/h. It is currently moving west-northwest at 10km/h.
It is forecasted to move slowly up until tomorrow as the typhoon moves northward. Afterward, it will be gradually accelerating towards north-northeastward on Thursday and northeastward on Friday away from northern Luzon. It is estimated that TY Betty will exit PAR late Thursday or early Friday morning. It will also weaken as it goes north due to cold air found north of PAR, making it possible for its category to be downgraded to a severe tropical storm (STS).
TCWS no. 1 is still hoisted over the majority of Ilocos Norte (eastern part) together with the northern part of CAR and mainland Cagayan. Despite this, the rest of Ilocos Norte may still experience strong winds and rains due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon and the outer periphery of the typhoon circulation.
Heavy rainfall is expected in the southern portions of Ilocos Sur and the northern portion of La Union (50-100mm) until tomorrow morning while the whole province of Ilocos Sur and La Union will experience 50-100mm of heavy rain from tomorrow morning up until Thursday morning. Aside from these, a marine gale warning remains in effect over the seaboard of Northern Luzon. ###
